PEER Consultants, P.C. provided Cleaning and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Inspection and services of sewer mainlines and Traffic Control Services for Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC).
PEER has been allocated more than 140 miles feet of six to sixty-six inch pipe for Cleaning and CCTV Inspection. Each inspection consists of pipe cleaning and CCTV inspections for pipe defects. The work is performed in various WSSC Sewershed Basins in and around Montgomery & Prince George’s Counties, Maryland. A notable portion of the work is being performed in the Right-of-Way, or off-road areas, requiring additional and creative problem-solving solutions to ensure the work is performed safely, ethically, and according to NASSCO standards.
This contract is part of WSSC’s Sewer Repair, Replacement & Rehabilitation Program (SR3). The program was developed by WSSC in response to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow consent decree entered into by WSSC, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), and four (4) citizens’ groups. The SR3 Program is a multi-year effort to improve the condition of the wastewater collection system assets and improve surface water quality. The SR3 program encompasses 1,540 miles of sewer mainlines slated for inspections.
PEER has been instrumental in identifying defects in sanitary sewer mainlines which will decrease the amount of groundwater infiltration through cracks and decrease the number of sewer overflows into waterways. WSSC will use the information gained from the assessments to identify the sewer mainlines that require rehabilitation and prioritize those lines with the most urgent need.
