CIVIL/ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER
Washington DC
PEER is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental or Civil Engineer to join our team. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to apply academic knowledge in real-world projects while gaining hands-on experience in the delivery of environmental and civil engineering services. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers to support the planning, design, and execution of projects that align with PEER’s mission. Responsibilities will include applying scientific and engineering principles to address client needs, engaging with governmental agencies, and participating in community-focused initiatives. This role is designed to foster professional growth through mentorship, training, and exposure to a wide range of engineering practices. Candidates should have obtained or be on track to earn their Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification, with a commitment to pursuing additional professional or managerial certifications over time.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing studies, designs, and drawing preparations for environmental and civil engineering related projects.
Perform inspections in the civil and environmental areas for clients, making sure all proposed work has been developed in the correct way and in accordance with applicable local, state and federal laws. Under supervision, prepare plans, specifications, schedules, task management plans, designs, calculations, and cost estimates.
Assist senior engineers and project managers with environmental programs.
Assist with preparation of permit applications.
Assist engineers and project managers with engineering drawings review, GIS applications, and utilization of software tools and databases where appropriate and requested.
Skillfully collect, analyze, and interpret data to track program impact and inform future strategies.
Communicate efficiently, cordially and amicably with all levels of government and local, state and federal governmental agencies.
Knowledge, Education, & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred. Otherwise, must be on track to obtain a P.E. license within 12 months of hire either by testing or by reciprocity.
Minimum of 2years of demonstrated experience in general engineering and environmental engineering and sciences.
Possess a strong environmental engineering and sciences background including extensive knowledge of all project phases (planning, administration, field studies, conceptual and detailed project design, program and project documentation, field inspections and oversight, project closeout).
Ability to develop project/program appropriate planning and engineering design drawings and specifications.
Proficient in planning, coordinating and managing community events, including logistics, marketing, and volunteer recruitment.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.
Possess technical problem-solving ability, strong data analysis skills and excellent computer skills.
Proficient in environmental engineering, planning and sciences, general engineering, environmental planning, energy efficiency and conservation and sustainability in the built environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in environmental engineering or related field.
Ability to perform GIS analysis, Access Programming and oversee AUTOCAD drafting to develop plans a plus.
Experience working with governmental agencies and providing community outreach.
Experience in developing and implementing outreach strategies, building partnerships, and engaging with diverse communities.
Certifications are desired for appropriate areas of concentration.
Sustainable Energy certifications are highly desired (e.g., CEM, LEED, etc.).

Working Conditions:

Typical indoor activities consist of sedentary conditions, sitting and working at a computer in an office setting. External activities may consist of working in conditions of extreme cold and/or hot temperatures. Assignments require the ability to transport oneself to and from the field site. May be subject to noise and hazardous site conditions such as slips, trips and falls and exposure to potentially hazardous materials. All required PPE would be provided when necessary.
Physical Demands:

CONSTRUCTION RESIDENT INSPECTOR III
Burlington, MA
PEER Consultants is seeking an experienced Construction Resident Inspector to join our Boston team in a fast-paced, dynamic Civil/Environmental Engineering environment. This position will provide construction phase administration, management, and field oversite on complex construction projects, with a primary focus on water/wastewater infrastructure, utility, and transportation projects. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and interact with clients and the general public.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provide resident representative or resident inspector services on municipal infrastructure projects including overseeing the daily construction progress on behalf of the owner, maintaining detailed daily records; reviewing contractor activities, test records and results; verification of workforce compliance; and reviewing and verifying contractor(s) applications for payment.
• Review and analyze contractor progress schedules, budgets, and claims
• Perform field and office duties related to Water/Wastewater field investigations including stormwater quality monitoring, IDDE investigations, and existing conditions assessments of MH and pipe systems.
• Manage a small team of engineers, scientists, and/or technicians assigned to a project.
Knowledge, Education, & Experience:
High School Diploma with a minimum of 8 years of related experience
Bachelor’s degree in civil, Geotechnical or Environmental Engineering or Construction Management or related degree with a minimum of 4 years of related experience.
Up-to-date knowledge of computers and current software tools used in construction management, engineering, report preparation and results presentation is required.
Ability to walk job sites, sometimes on uneven terrain, and stand for long periods. Ability to wear safety equipment and to carry equipment weighing up to 20 pounds as needed.
Valid driver’s license and personal smart phone are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Underground pipelines, water/wastewater pumping station and/or treatment plant
OSHA 10 Hour construction training a plus.

Field Technician I
Burlington, MA
PEER Consultants is seeking a Field Technician to join our team in a fast paced, dynamic Civil/Environmental Engineering environment. This position is assigned to field services, engineering and construction management projects across all PEER disciplines, providing field engineering and technician services, primarily with water/wastewater and transportation clients throughout the Boston, MA region.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide assistance to engineers with:
o Water/Wastewater field investigations including stormwater quality monitoring, IDDE investigations, and existing conditions assessments of MH and pipe systems.
o Geotechnical Investigations including field tasks such as soil borings, monitoring well installation, and soil/groundwater sampling.
o Preparation of record drawings
o Potable Water sampling
Work as part of a team of engineers, field technicians, and/or resident inspectors.
Receives moderate to close supervision depending on the complexity of assignments.
Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations.
Assumes other related responsibilities from time to time, as required.
Knowledge, Education, & Experience:
High School Diploma plus 1-year relevant experience or college course work in related discipline, or an associate’s degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
CAD training, certification and/or experience is a plus.
Up-to-date knowledge of computers and tablets
