CONSTRUCTION RESIDENT INSPECTOR III

Burlington, MA

PEER Consultants is seeking an experienced Construction Resident Inspector to join our Boston team in a fast-paced, dynamic Civil/Environmental Engineering environment. This position will provide construction phase administration, management, and field oversite on complex construction projects, with a primary focus on water/wastewater infrastructure, utility, and transportation projects. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and interact with clients and the general public.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide resident representative or resident inspector services on municipal infrastructure projects including overseeing the daily construction progress on behalf of the owner, maintaining detailed daily records; reviewing contractor activities, test records and results; verification of workforce compliance; and reviewing and verifying contractor(s) applications for payment.

• Review and analyze contractor progress schedules, budgets, and claims

• Perform field and office duties related to Water/Wastewater field investigations including stormwater quality monitoring, IDDE investigations, and existing conditions assessments of MH and pipe systems.

• Manage a small team of engineers, scientists, and/or technicians assigned to a project.


Knowledge, Education, & Experience:

  • High School Diploma with a minimum of 8 years of related experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, Geotechnical or Environmental Engineering or Construction Management or related degree with a minimum of 4 years of related experience.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of computers and current software tools used in construction management, engineering, report preparation and results presentation is required.

  • Ability to walk job sites, sometimes on uneven terrain, and stand for long periods. Ability to wear safety equipment and to carry equipment weighing up to 20 pounds as needed.

  • Valid driver’s license and personal smart phone are required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Underground pipelines, water/wastewater pumping station and/or treatment plant

Field Technician I

Burlington, MA

PEER Consultants is seeking a Field Technician to join our team in a fast paced, dynamic Civil/Environmental Engineering environment. This position is assigned to field services, engineering and construction management projects across all PEER disciplines, providing field engineering and technician services, primarily with water/wastewater and transportation clients throughout the Boston, MA region.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance to engineers with:

o Water/Wastewater field investigations including stormwater quality monitoring, IDDE investigations, and existing conditions assessments of MH and pipe systems.

o Geotechnical Investigations including field tasks such as soil borings, monitoring well installation, and soil/groundwater sampling.

o Preparation of record drawings

o Potable Water sampling

  • Work as part of a team of engineers, field technicians, and/or resident inspectors.

  • Receives moderate to close supervision depending on the complexity of assignments.

  • Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations.

  • Assumes other related responsibilities from time to time, as required.


Knowledge, Education, & Experience:

  • High School Diploma plus 1-year relevant experience or college course work in related discipline, or an associate’s degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

  • CAD training, certification and/or experience is a plus.

Energy Engineer III

Washinton DC

PEER Consultants is seeking a Field Technician to join our team in a fast paced, dynamic Civil/Environmental Engineering environment. This position is assigned to field services, engineering and construction management projects across all PEER disciplines, providing field engineering and technician services, primarily with water/wastewater and transportation clients throughout the Boston, MA region.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify, advocate for and advise on energy efficiency improvements in new construction and existing industrial, commercial and multi-family buildings and facilities.

    • Participate in the delivery of cost-effective energy efficiency solutions to commercial buildings, while contributing to a mission-driven, creative, enjoyable and stimulating work environment.

    • May participate in the electrical/mechanical, energy efficiency, solar and or wind elements of various infrastructure and facility design projects.

    • Work with wide range of customers, including business owners, architects, engineers, vendors, trade allies and other relevant players to promote the installation of cost-effective efficiency improvements in customers’ future and existing buildings/facilities and to creatively overcome barriers to installation in accordance with divisional strategic plans.

    • Provide appropriate levels of support that encourage participation in energy efficiency services. Performs basic energy and financial analyses, analyzes fuel and utility bills, estimates savings and costs, screens measure and provides technical assistance and upgrade recommendations for customers.

    • Educate and provide an analysis of energy use; reviews plans and specifications for energy efficiency measures.

    • Adopt and apply knowledge in work with customers regarding new building technologies, process improvements, and substantial energy efficiency opportunities that are presented to staff.

    • Build and maintain relationships with customer decision makers and implementation staff to develop project energy savings goals.

    • Work with engineering staff and customers to determine and present estimated energy savings and appropriate incentives.

    • Manage customer expectations and capably persuades customers to make investments in energy efficiency.

    • Work with customers to identify and prioritize site specific project needs and opportunities, develop customer relationships, manage customer expectations, and inspect installed measures.

    • Provide and model exemplary customer service both internally and externally to the organization.

    • Support the coordination of activities with other staff, groups, and divisions as is necessary to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.

    • Quantify energy consumption to establish baselines (federal requirements, IECC etc.) for energy use or need.

    • Provide technical analysis/review for energy projects, providing, as well, project risk assessment when necessary and may manage a complete task by his/her own.

    • Perform building “walk-through” to verify and/or identify energy conservation measures (architectural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) in commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities.

    • Function as subject matter expert in the use of simulations & analysis software (s) and spreadsheets to accurately represent energy analysis.

    • Prepare reports containing energy analysis results or recommendations for energy cost savings.

    • May assist in preparing proposals including project schedules.

    • Research and interpret applicable energy and environmental regulations to ensure compliance.

    • Maintain professional relationships with clients, clients’ personnel and develop new business relationships.

    • Actively participate in professional associations including making presentations at conferences or meetings.

    • Track progress to ensure timely involvement in multiple projects of moderate size and complexity and associated tasks and competing priorities in a dynamic and fast paced environment.

    • Other duties as assigned may include but are not limited to providing design support for infrastructure and facility design projects and evaluating engineering designs to identify measures to lower costs and /or improve function.


Knowledge, Education, & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering or related engineering field followed by 5 years of engineering experience with residential, commercial and industrial mechanical systems.

Qualified candidate must possess:

• 5 years of experience in energy efficiency design

• 5 years of experience handling multiple, concurrent projects

• Demonstrated knowledge* of:

o Building energy modeling tools

o Building systems commissioning, HVAC design, energy efficiency technologies, green building, and high- performance design

*Knowledge may be demonstrated through education, training and/or experience.

Qualified candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle to travel to and from client locations within the DC metropolitan area.

Work may be performed at the project site with exposure to various weather conditions and perhaps construction activities, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

SALARY: $97,760 to $133,120/Year
